2. Leverage local numbers as much as possible

Allowing your number to look local is one of several steps to add legitimacy to your business. According to a report by BrightLocal, 60% of customers choose to call local companies after finding them on Google. 


Letting people see that your number belongs in their area instills confidence in them. It also gives customers the impression that your business is easily accessible. Using a local number is a good idea, especially if you have a significant group of local clients.


Avoid using toll-free numbers. Many customers equate 1800 numbers with telemarketers and are inclined to ignore such calls, citing past experience and irrelevance. Consider using an area code that matches your business's prominent location. Customers will feel more comfortable doing business with you if your phone number appears local. 


For example, if you’re setting up your business in Washington, D.C., You need to ensure your caller ID is formatted as (202) XXX-XXXX, where 202 is the area code. Similarly, if you are setting up your business in New Delhi, your caller ID should be formatted as (011) XXXX-XXXX. After all, most people prefer dealing with someone local rather than an outsider.

In such scenarios, having a business category tag (Finance, Insurance, Healthcare, Publisher, etc.) can help you distinguish yourself from others and customers who search for you online.  


6. Rationalize your calling frequency

Scammers don’t respect customers’ time and can call multiple times a day at odd hours. Conversely, you can build your brand reputation by connecting with customers at the right time. Getting back-to-back calls at odd hours is a big turn-off for customers. By making too many calls in a day, you may come across as a pushy brand that doesn't value the time and priorities of customers.
